Princess Georgina Maanan Quist

Madam Georgina Quist was born on 13th January 1939 to the late Mr. Alexander Quist and Madam Georgina Aikins. She was born into the distinguished Royal family of Assin Kushea, whose rich history is closely intertwined with the traditional leadership of the area. Her mother was the sister of the late Chief of Assin Kushea and she is also the sister of the current Paramount Chief of Assin Kushea, Ehunabobrim Prah Agyeinsem VI. Fondly recalling her childhood years, Georgina often described herself as the mischievous one among her siblings. Her playful nature, adventurous spirit, and lively personality brought both excitement and laughter to family life. Even as a young girl, she possessed the cheerful disposition and infectious smile that would become the hallmark of her life.

Madam Quist received her early education in Methodist schools at Obuasi, Konongo, and Huni Valley. Her education instilled in her the Christian values of discipline, compassion, hard work, and service to others. After completing her schooling, she trained and served as a Pupil Teacher at the Methodist School in Huni Valley. Although her teaching career was relatively brief, it reflected her lifelong passion for nurturing, guiding, and encouraging others.

While living in Huni Valley, Georgina met her first husband, the late Engineer Solomon Oduro. Their union was blessed with five children—four sons and one daughter. As the wife of an engineer whose work took the family across different parts of Ghana, she embraced the responsibilities of motherhood with remarkable strength and resilience. The family lived in several towns and cities, including Sekondi, Takoradi, Tarkwa, Kumasi, and Accra, allowing her to experience and appreciate the diversity of Ghana while building friendships and lasting relationships wherever they settled. Following the passing of her first husband, she later found companionship again and married the late Nana Nyamaah, a native of Juaben. Their marriage brought renewed joy and companionship during another chapter of her life. In her later years, after the passing of Nana Nyamaah, she lived with her daughter, Dr. Gladys Fordjour, where she devoted herself to helping care for her grandchildren. Her support enabled her daughter to pursue her demanding career as an ophthalmologist, a sacrifice that reflected Georgina's selfless love and unwavering commitment to family.

Madam Georgina Quist believed that honest work was one of life's greatest virtues. After her years as a teacher, she ventured into business, where she traded in general merchandise and clothing. Through diligence, determination, and careful stewardship, she built a successful livelihood. One of her proudest achievements was transforming her parents' old family house into a beautiful two-storey residence. This remarkable accomplishment was made possible through her hard work and with the support of her father's brother, who was then living in Sierra Leone. The house remains a lasting symbol of her vision, perseverance, and dedication to preserving the family heritage.

To know Georgina was to experience warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. She possessed a rare gift for making everyone feel welcomed and valued. Her radiant smile, lively spirit, and generous heart drew both relatives and strangers to her with ease. She was truly the heartbeat of the extended family. Children from every branch of the family naturally gravitated toward her home, many spending holidays and extended periods under her loving care. She embraced every child as her own, creating an atmosphere of belonging, comfort, and joy. Many often remarked that she was remarkably similar to her beloved grandmother, the late Naana, whose nurturing spirit and love for family lived on through Georgina. She played an invaluable role within the larger Royal family, particularly in supporting her brother during his enstoolment as Chief of Assin Kushea. Throughout his reign, she remained a dependable pillar of support while also assisting her brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, and extended relatives in countless ways. She had an extraordinary ability to unite people, encourage peace, and strengthen family bonds. Wherever Georgina was present, laughter was never far away. Her charisma, infectious enthusiasm, and joyful outlook lifted the spirits of everyone around her. She possessed the rare ability to transform ordinary moments into cherished memories and difficult moments into occasions of hope.

Madam Georgina Quist was a devoted Christian whose faith remained constant throughout her life. Raised in the Methodist Church, she developed a deep love for Christian worship from an early age. She especially loved singing and found great comfort in the timeless hymns of the Methodist Church. Whether at home or in church, she could often be heard singing hymns that reflected her unwavering trust in God. Even as her husband's work took the family from one town to another, her faith remained steadfast and continued to shape her values, decisions, and relationships.

One of the most difficult moments of Georgina's life came with the passing of her beloved second son about two years before her own departure. Like any devoted mother, she carried the pain of that loss deeply in her heart. Though she faced the tragedy with remarkable faith and courage, those closest to her witnessed the profound sorrow it brought. The loss left an irreplaceable void in her life, yet she continued to draw strength from her family and her unwavering trust in God, surrounding those she loved with the same warmth, compassion, and resilience that had always defined her. As the years advanced, Georgina's health gradually declined. During the past year she experienced periods of ill health. In mid-June she developed what initially appeared to be a mild cold. She was admitted to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where she peacefully answered the Master's call on Sunday, 19th June, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family. Although her earthly journey came to an end, the love she shared, the laughter she inspired, and the lives she shaped remain an enduring testimony to a life well lived.

Madam Georgina Quist leaves behind far more than memories—she leaves a legacy of love. She will forever be remembered as a woman whose presence brightened every room, whose kindness united families, whose generosity knew no boundaries, and whose joyful spirit lifted everyone she encountered. She demonstrated that true greatness is found in serving others, loving unconditionally, working diligently, and trusting faithfully in God. Her life reminds us that wealth is measured not only by what one acquires but by the number of hearts one touches. Though she has departed from our sight, her laughter echoes in the memories of those who knew her, her wisdom lives on through her children and grandchildren, and her love continues to bind her family together.
